With 3 straight days of thunderstorms and rain to end the first week of the playoffs, somehow we got in all the games heading into week 2. Six teams have now been eliminated, and only 4 are left. The four left are the #2 Seed Willimantic Ridges (the Eastern Division regular season champion), #3 Seed Elmer’s Silver Bullets, #4 Seed Chicago Sam’s Orioles, and #5 Seed Brickhouse Indians.
On another rain delayed evening Friday Knight, Elmer’s ended the Knights run at 3 straight championships. Alex Fretz was on his game, and Marco Ross was equally dominant, but Elmer’s bats and a few key errors by the Knights usually stellar defense were the difference. In the first game, the Orioles staff of 3 combined pitchers out-dueled the veteran Pirates pitcher Zach Cloft, and came away with the win.
The Odds are with the 2 teams left in the winners Bracket (Ridges and Indians), but Elmer’s and Orioles are scrappy enough to pull it out. Plus whoever gets out of the elimination bracket has their slate cleared in the best of 3 championship series starting Wednesday. One more win for the Ridges or Indians and they are in the finals… while it will take 2 wins from Elmer’s/Orioles, or a loss and a win from the Indians or Ridges.
Some good baseball ahead.
