After bringing up the idea over this past year, Rick Barrett (Knights), Mike D’Antonio (Angels) and possibly a few others got the ball rolling initially to bring it up again at a league meeting.
After the initial discussion, the reception was overwhelmingly positive to bring back the Home Run Derby. We had one other league wide HR Derby back in 2009 when Dan Beecher (Bristol Knights) took home the title at the all aluminum bat HR Derby held at Riverfront Park in Glastonbury, and only hit a total of around 5 HRs in the event. Dan got a nice t-shirt for his efforts.
This year we are playing at our leagues smallest park, especially for lefties… Martin Park in East Hartford. We expect to see the ball flying over the fence much more at Martin Park.
We are emailing out all the specifics to all the managers, and are asking them to forward the info and rules to all their prospective players.
Here are some of the basics…
It starts at 6pm… be there by 5:45 to sign up.
Cost is $20 per entrant
Batting order will be randomly selected at the event.
10 outs per batter, but there also is a time limit per batter… whatever you run out of first, time or outs.
All players need to play the field when not batting or on deck… either shagging in the OF, pitching, or catching.
All teams sending players need to supply at least 5 decent game balls.
