During the middle of the fourth inning at Alumni Field at Newington High School, Elmer’s Place catcher Mike Cook made his way over to the stands next to the home team dugout, dropped down on one knee while both teams looked on and proposed to his girlfriend in front of friends and family…she said yes.

That moment seemed to turn the momentum towards Elmers as they shut down the Loco Perro Expos bats for the rest of the game on their way to a 4-2 victory.

The bottom third of the Expos order scored two runs in the top of the third off of Elmer’s starter DJ Dyer to jump out to an early lead. Alex Fortin led off the inning with a single to right and Derek Turner followed with a single up the middle. The runners each moved up a base on a passed ball and Fortin scored when Greg Dash flew out to center field. Noah Pinero grounded to Justin Swiderski at shortstop, but the throw was low and got by the first baseman allowing Derek Turner to score the second run of the game.

Swiderski singled with one out in the bottom of the inning, Diego Peralta walked and Jordan Sanchez drove in Swiderski on a deep fly ball to right, off the base of the fence. Sanchez rounded second too far and was tagged out 9-4-6.

The Expos managed only one more hit over the last four innings while Elmers tagged Zack Turner for three runs in the sixth.

Sanchez led off the inning with a single to left and Phil Gendron walked. Ken Cook single in Sanchez to tie the game.  Robert Kilduff continued the rally with a walk and the Expos brought the infield in. Ryan Carroll grounded hard to Jeff Durso at third base who fired home to get a sliding Gendron by a foot. Nick Dinino grounded into a fielder’s choice 5 to 4 scoring Ken Cook through the back door. Mike Cook knocked Kilduff in with another fielder’s choice before Zack Turner got Swiderski to ground out to first base.
