EAST HAMPTON>> Chris McGrath was dealing.
Through the first four innings, the Bristol left-hander didn’t allowe a base-runner. Soft ground ball after soft ground ball and a shattered bat was all the Expos had to show — until the fifth.
Before taking the field in the top of the fifth, Brian Kohn was overheard in the dugout discussing the game situation.
“I’m not worried about it,” said the Expos shortstop regarding the impending perfect game.
Kohn led off the bottom of the fifth with a single through the left side undoing the Knights hold on the game and giving the home team the spark they needed.
The Knights’ catcher could be heard yelling down to his third baseman to dive for that ball to attempt to keep the perfect game alive.
Trailing 1-0, the Expos scored four times in the inning.
With Kohn at second, Zack Turner drove the ball deep over the left-fielder’s head to tie the game.
Ryan Cronin followed with a base hit to right and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Ben Fortin drove in two more to give the Expos the lead.
Brian Roberson drove in Fortin for the fourth run of the inning.
The Knights got one back in the sixth, but Turner was just strong enough on the mound to pick up his team-leading third win of the season while striking out eight.
The Expos finish out the regular season with the Tunxis Grill Indians on Friday at East Catholic High School in Manchester and then play two games in Portland next week before the playoffs.
