Elmer’s moved back to .500 with a 6-0 win over the Bristol Knights under the lights Friday night May 30th at Muzzy. Alex Fretz was outstanding on the mound throwing a complete game shutout allowing only 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. Offensively the team was led by Mike Gwiazdowski who had 2 hits and scored 2 runs along with Garit Grigery who had 2 hits and an RBI. Rob Kilduff also scored 2 runs and had an RBI double. Rick Barrett was on base twice for the Knights by a single and a walk.
On Monday night June 2nd Elmer’s and the Portland Panthers played to a 4-4 tie that ended after 9 innings due to darkness and a lack of lights at Legends field. With the score at 4-2 heading into the bottom of the 7th Elmer’s managed to score 2 runs both with 2 outs to avoid the loss. Mike Cook singled and came around to score on a Justin Swiderski single. Swiderski would then come home to score on a bases loaded play to shortstop that Nick Dinino was able to beat out at first. Pitching was the big story of the game, as Swiderski also pitched all 9 innings for Elmer’s on the mound striking out 7 and not allowing a single earned run. Mike Baccaro was very effective for Portland throwing the first 7 innings and striking out 10. Brandon Lagueux pitched two perfect innings to end the game for Portland. Portland was led offensively by Dan Bolgna who collected 3 hits on the day.
