The Portland Panthers battled to defeat the Tunxis Grill Indians 4-2 in 8 innings on Tuesday night at Sage Park in Berlin. The Panthers were down 2-1 in the top of the 6th inning when leadoff hitter Dave Reindl singled, stole 2nd base and scored from 3rd on a sacrifice fly to right field by Dan Baccaro. Portland then handed the ball to pitcher Brandon Lagueux who proceeded to pitch the final 3 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. In the top of the 8th inning, Lagueux lead off by smashing a triple down the 3rd base line. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out, Josue Lopez came up to the plate for his 1st at bat of the season and promptly slashed a base hit up the middle, driving in what would become the game winning runs, when Lagueux struck out the final 2 batters of the game with the bases loaded to earn his 1st W of the season. For the Indians, Marcus McLaughlin had an RBI triple, Brian Pinney and Chris Barsa each singled twice and Albert Pienkowski pitched extremely well, only giving up 1 hit in 7 innings of work.
