As the trade deadline passes, I can confirm that there were no moves made in the Manchester Twilight League.
As we enter the final games of the regular season, I wanted to put together a basic wrap-up of our season with some other team’s thrown in there.
The Expos began 2013 a step better than in 2012. Last year the Expos came within one game of .500 when they were 5-6 after 11 games, this year after the same number of games the Expos were 2-9, but since then have won six of 13 including two ties. That puts the team at 8-14-2 this year, surprisingly similar to last season’s final regular season record of 7-13-2.
Last season the Expos had a tough time with Elmer’s, losing all three games in the regular season by a combined score of 21-1. This year, newcomer Portland Panthers have been a mystery, being shutout in all three games by a combined 15-0. The two teams play their final game together Thursday in East Hampton.
This year was a year of firsts for the current Loco Perro Expos. In the first ever MTL games played at Dodd Stadium, the Expos defeated the Indians, 5-4 for the first ever win over the team from Newington. After taking a beating from Elmer’s last year, the Expos split with them in two games and outscored the defending champions 9-4 this year (4-2 loss and 7-2 win).
With one more game left on the schedule (should be two, but Glastonbury refuses to schedule a make-up date), the Expos are currently the ninth seed in the MTL playoffs, tied with the Bristol Knights in winning percentage, but due to the head-to-head match-up, Bristol holds the tiebreaker. If the season ended right now, Glastonbury would be the top seed and we would be playing the Knights in the #8/#9 match-up on Monday night.
