After more than an hour delay due to lightning visible from Riverfront Park in Glastonbury, the Pirates hung on for a 5-3 win over the Expos Thursday night.

Bill Eller kept the Expos off the bases in the first half of the game, but after the umpires saw a flash of lightning over the trees they cleared the field and the thirty minute clock started. Play cannot resume unless there is no lightning within a half an hour.

The first 11 Expos went down in order, but with two outs in the fourth, Tim Seidl lined to the right fielder Jason Boice who had the ball tip off the top of his glove. Noah Pinero followed with a single to right center scoring Seidl for the Expos first run of the game.

Down 5-1, the Pirates scored all of their runs in the first three innings off of Alex Iannone.

Greg Jordan reached on a single to right field and then scored on a RBI single by Steve Kelley. In the second, Iannone got Joe Spero to strike out looking before Evan Tegtmeier and Matt Spence walked and singled respectively. Chris Clinton flew out to right driving in Tegtmeier. Barrett reached on a error by Pete Villa at second and two runs came in when the very next batter, Greg Jordan doubled in both.

The fifth Pirate run came in the third when Steve Kelley doubled down the right field line with one out. Zach Cloft drove him in before Iannone got two strike outs to get out of the inning.

After the delay where both teams were itching to get back on the field (and their mosquito bites), the Expos came alive.

Seidl and Pinero combined for the first run and then in the sixth, Alex Fortin reached on an error with one out, stole second and third (probably defensive indifference) and scored when Derek Turner grounded to the shortstop who failed to make the play.

Seidl was in the middle of the seventh inning rally as well. The platoon right fielder walked to start the inning and Pinero followed with his second hit of the game. After a fly out by Brian Seidl, Brian Kohn flew out to the center fielder, allowing Tim Seidl to tag up and score. The rally and game was squelched when Zack Turner lined softly to the second baseman.

After being at the field for almost three hours, the Pirates came away with the victory, but not after the Expos attempted a comeback.

The Expos get right back at it Friday vs. the East Hartford Angels at Martin Park at 6 p.m.
