The incredible MTL playoffs continued last night and into this morning with nearly 7 hours of baseball between Elmers and the Plaza Azteca Indians.
Game 1 saw Elmers take a 2-0 lead with a Ken Cook rbi single off Indians ace Albert Pienkowski. Indians fought back off Elmers starter Justin Swarderski to tie and go ahead 6-2 thanks to rbi’s from Brian Pinney, Keith Echevarria and Chris Barsa. Elmers had Albert in trouble in the top of the 6th, loading the bases with no outs. But Indians SS Steve Pellegatto made a sprauling/diving catch of a line drive up the middle, saving 2 runs, in getting the first out. Pienkowski then got the next 2 outs without any runs scoring and stranded 2 more runners in the 7th to win 6-2 and the Indians had a 1-0 series lead.
Game 2 saw the Indians take a 2-0 lead off Elmers starter Matt Morrison. Elmers tied it in the 3rd on a clutch 2 out, 2 strike single by Jordan Sanchez. That’s when the fun started. Brian Pinney and Elmers reliever Sean Parker traded zero’s for many innings. Both teams had their chances but nobody could take the lead. Pinney came out after tossing an amazing 11 innings. Sean Parker was still in after throwing 7 relief innings. The game moved late into the night, then the early morning, still tied at 2. In the bottom of the 13th inning Jordan Sanchez led off with a single off Indians reliever John Skinner, then moved to 3b on botched pick off attempt. It was 12:45am at that point with the lights shut off at Rotary Field to end the incredible marathon before a winner could be decided. Both teams will pick up where they left off tonight at 7pm to determine the best team in the MTL….
