All three regular season meetings between Elmer’s and the Loco Perro Expos went the same way and the fourth in the playoffs Tuesday night didn’t stray from the norm. Elmer’s defeated the Expos 10-0 in five innings due to the playoff mercy rule.
The Expos, just happy to be in the position they were in, came out over-matched by Elmer’s in all facets of the game and it got ugly early as the higher seed put up four runs in the first and added another in the second.
With Elmer’s holding a commanding lead into the fourth, Ben Fortin came into pitch for starter Brian Kohn, striking out the side. Walking off the mound Fortin and the Elmer’s batter exchanged some words, yelling back and forth at each other. After a Greg Dash base hit to start the inning, Fortin was the second batter of the inning. Elmer’s pitcher Ken Cook threw behind Fortin drawing a warning from the home plate umpire. Cook struck out the side in the fifth.
The bottom of the fifth inning Fortin took the hill, threw a couple of pitches in the dirt and then hit Corey Anderson in the pants down by his knee and was ejected from the game. Elmer’s leading 8-0, needed only two runs to walk off with the win and they did just that. An infield single scored two and the Expos season was over. Elmer’s heads to the championship series Wednesday and Thursday versus the Plaza Azteca Indians.
