The Loco Perro Expos begin the playoffs of the Manchester Twilight League tonight as the seventh seed and one of two teams beginning the tournament in the single elimination bracket, the other being the Tri-County Twins.
Last week the Expos defeated the Bristol Knights at West Road by a score of 7-5 and then lost to the East Hartford Angels 7-0 in Vernon.
The seven run third inning versus the Knights last Monday proved to be the difference in a darkness shortened game. Alex Fortin led off the inning with a walk and after Derek Turner and Brian Seidl were retired in the air, the next three batters walked and Brian Kohn cleared the bases with a triple to right center. Zack Turner drove in Kohn and Greg Dash followed with a single of his own. Austin Shumbo walked allowing Dash to score.
Rick Barret led the offense for the Knights with a double to the right field fence in the first inning followed by long home runs over the tall right field fence in the fourth and fifth innings. He ended the game with four RBI’s.
Brian Kohn pitched just well enough for the Expos to gain the seventh win of the season.
On Tuesday the Expos and Angels met in Vernon for a makeup game and what would be both teams final regular season game.
Neither team scored until the fourth inning, but the Angels did the only scoring of the game. Two runs in the bottom of the fourth were scored when Jackson Mistretta and Sean Cormier led off the inning with consecutive singles. Mike Clough drove in one run when he grounded out to first base. The second run scored on a Dean triple. One run was scored in the fifth after a James Fedoras double allowing Mike D’Antonio to drive him in.
The big inning for the Angels was the sixth. Clough, Dean and Ronnie Emanuelson started the inning with three straight singles, Clough scoring on the third. Nico Denovellis pinch hit and scored the fourth run of the inning for the Angels as they defeated the Expos 7-0.
The Expos begin their playoff run Tuesday night at Rotary Field against the loser of the Bristol Knights and Elmer’s game which took place Monday.
